[v. 03-23-2019] I'm starting this page for rapid access to some sites and external Resource links for families and individuals with various Disabilities. The term "differently abled" was one that was an early replacement for the outdated term, "crippled."
DC Advocacy Partners has a superb program. Here is the link: www.dcpartners.iel.org/ I graduated in 2016.
During the nine months of intense monthly weekends we forged bonds that will live for a lifetime. I met some of the most intelligent and skilled people I've ever met. It was uplifting to see the photos and hear oral history from these residents of the District of Columbia. We spent nearly a year learning how to advocate for others whose life journeys are puzzling for them. We heard from key individuals in a range of DC offices that help with ADA and other support organizations,
Below is a list of Resources that was gathered by the folks who offer the Happy Pill toy-with-a-purpose.
HappyPill.com was started to market an actual recorded Complete Giggle Cycle of a young child. She now is an adult and wants others to experience the feelings that this laughter cycle can release. The "pill" is a soft body with arms and legs and a "belly button" with a red heart patch that you can press. One squeeze sets off the laughter cycle that lasts 12 seconds. I tell people that pressing it five times gives you a one-minute experience of remembering what it might be like for you to laugh or for you to listen to a child having a pure exploration experience of being tickled by her safe strong father. Imagine the brain and ear stimulation if you squeeze one for each ear. Wow! Sound Therapy.
